Position Information Posting Number 20111464 Position Title Part-time Adjunct Faculty, Department of Communication Template Title Position Type Faculty Position Number Department Communication Position Summary Information Job Summary/Basic Function GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A part-time adjunct faculty member will provide clinical instruction within the Department of Communication. This adjunct will plan, coordinate, and conducts courses and/or clinical experiences for students. Reports to the Department Chair. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: * The primary responsibilities of part-time adjunct faculty are to teach classes currently in the curriculum. The adjunct faculty member will teach 3 to 9 credits (1 to 3 classes), which means he or she will prepare and provide on-campus and online students with course outlines, materials, and lectures that support learning objectives set forth in the course syllabus; develop and measure learning outcomes; and assess student performance and maintain grade records. * The adjunct faculty member will create an effective learning environment through the use of a variety of instructional methods. * The adjunct faculty member will grade classwork and assignments. * The adjunct faculty member will be responsive to student questions and concerns. Provide great customer service to our students. * The adjunct faculty member will remain knowledgeable about advances in their disciplines, in learning theory, and in pedagogy. * The adjunct faculty member will support the college's strategic plans and the department's goals. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: 1. Maintains academic standards as established by the department, college, and university. 2. Teaches students in clinical and laboratory settings. 3. Participates in planning and organization of courses to which assigned. 4. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of course activities. 5. Plans professional development activities for self such as continuing education offerings, workshops, professional meetings, etc. 6. Participates in program and department activities associated with professional status. 7. Maintains membership in and participates in activities of professional associations. 8. Incorporates new knowledge and techniques in clinical and laboratory teaching. 9. Displays a scholarly orientation to the assumption of the responsibilities of a university faculty member. a. Utilizes teaching-learning principles appropriately; b. Serves as a knowledgeable resource person to students and community; c. Shares professional expertise at the local level. Minimum Qualifications Experience: Applicants for part-time adjunct teaching assignments are expected to have strong communication skills. Part-time adjunct faculty applicants are expected to have post-secondary teaching experiences (including familiarity with instructional technology); work experiences in the discipline to be taught (eg, advertising, digital media, multi-platform journalism, public relations, and/or related fields); a commitment to excellent teaching and a demonstrated familiarity with "best practices" in undergraduate education; and knowledge of industry-related software and systems, including industry certifications, where appropriate. Degrees must be from an accredited institution. MA or Ph.D. in Communication, Journalism, or a related field at the time of appointment is preferred, but graduate students with at least 18 credit hours in communication will be considered.
